Treatments
for patients affected by several different cancers tremendously improved during
the last years. New drugs, surgery, imaging and prevention contributed to
transform cancer in a curable disease.
Even so,
there is large space for improvements particularly when the neoplastic lesion
is identified in a later stage and surgery is not an option. For these
patients, chemotherapy is often the only option available and the prognosis is
unfavorable.
One of the
reason for chemotherapy failure is the variability of tumors between patients
and sometimes, even in the same patients cancer cells acquire different mutations.
With the
precision oncology, we aim to develop protocols for reliable, fast and
affordable screening to support the clinician for choosing the most effective
therapy based on scientific evidences and to adapt in real time to the changing
needs of a patient during the therapy.
