Alessio Fasano: best Italian Researcher abroad

Alessio Fasano, Director of the Department of Pediatrics of the MassGeneral Hospital for Children in Boston and President of the Ebris Foundation, on Thursday 27 June received the "Bilateral Italian Scientific Cooperation Award" at the International Conference Room of the Palazzo della Farnesina by the Minister of Affairs Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Enzo Moavero Milanesi and the Minister of Education, University and Research Marco Bussetti.

An internationally renowned scientist with over 35 years of academic experience, Alessio Fasano can boast an academic career that began in Italy in the late 1980s and continued with incredible success in the United States. He is currently considered a worldwide authority on the study of pediatrics, gastroenterology, microbiome and nutrition. The desire to create fertile ground for young researchers where they can freely express their scientific talent led to the creation, in 2012, of the European Institute of Biomedical Research of Salerno (EBRIS), fruit of the cooperation between the Massachusetts General Hospital of Boston and the Salernitana Medical School Foundation. This is the result of the ten-year work of Prof. Fasano, who has carried out numerous scientific collaborations between Italy and the United States, leading to the creation of a real network of brains.

EBRIS Foundation, which is based in the Convent of "San Nicola della Palma", a place historically connected with the events of the ancient Salerno medical school, has provided many students, fellows and young teachers with the opportunity to be exposed to the strong multidisciplinary environment in which interact and discuss with international experts capable of promoting the continuation and success of the scientific career of a large number of Italian talents. Alessio Fasano, at the end of the award ceremony in the International Conference Room, declared: "I am obviously honored to have received an award so prestigious, testimony of a very strong teamwork between our Italian and American researchers with a common goal of doing science at the highest level and creating a stimulating environment for the training of the next generation of Italian researchers "

The Foundation's objective is to create a research institute of excellence on the international scene, through the development of projects focused on the relationship between nutrition and health. With 4 laboratories for a total of 120 workstations equipped with state-of-the-art scientific equipment, EBRIS hosts among others, spin offs and research groups including the Metabolomics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry laboratory of the University of Salerno directed by Prof. Pietro Campiglia.
