Research on “bio-markers” for the recognition of oncological disease at an early stage continues

Within the "Campania Oncoterapie" project, the Ebris Foundation has the task of creating new cell screening models, which will aim to identify "bio-markers" and thus allow the recognition of oncological disease at an early stage to provide relevant information in order to start the therapy in a personalized way from the very early stages of the disease.

Currently, Ebris researchers have perfected the culture conditions of organoids deriving from colon cancer: the scientific activity of the Foundation in this area in the months of January and February 2020 has been particularly specialized and focused on the preparation of 3D cultures deriving from tissues tumors.

The approach used is that highlighted in the article "Patient-derived organoids can predict response to chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer patients; Science Translation Medicine ”, recently published in several scientific literature journals, which demonstrates how the response of organoids obtained from colon cancer metastases is comparable to that of patients, thus allowing a preventive screening of the most effective drugs.

This approach provides a real breakthrough in research and care for cancer patients and will reduce the time needed to evaluate a molecule with a chemotherapeutic action, reduce the risk of testing ineffective molecules and reduce the number of animals. laboratory necessary to validate its effectiveness.
